Environmental protection business opportunities from the perspective of waste sorting
Why waste sorting?
If the 10,000 tons of garbage landfilled is calculated based on a pile height of 1 meter, it will cover an area of 12.9 acres, which is more than the area of a standard football field. Landfill of single-use plastic products takes more than 200 years to degrade, and deteriorates soil quality and reduces crop yields. A No. 1 battery rotten in the land can make 1 cubic meter of soil lose its utilization value; a button battery can contaminate 600 tons of water, which is equivalent to a person's lifetime drinking water. If domestic waste is not sorted, it not only wastes precious natural resources, but also increases disposal costs, occupies more land resources, causes greater environmental pollution, and seriously affects people's physical health.
One ton of food waste can produce 0.3 tons of fertilizer after biological treatment. Recovering 1 ton of scrap steel can make 0.9 tons of good steel; the waste easy-pull tank can be recycled countless times, and each cycle can save about 95% energy. Recycling one ton of waste paper can recreate 800 kilograms of good paper and save 300 kilograms of wood, which is equivalent to cutting down 17 fewer trees; processing and recycling 1 million tons of waste paper can avoid cutting down more than 600 square kilometers of forest. Recycling one ton of waste plastic can refine 600 kilograms of unleaded gasoline and diesel; it can also make 800 kilograms of plastic particles, saving 200-300 kilograms of plasticizers and saving 5,000 degrees of electricity. Recycling one ton of waste glass can create 2,500 ordinary 1-jin wine bottles, saving 400 degrees of electricity and reducing air pollution. This is all the significance of garbage sorting.
How is domestic waste classified?
Recyclable waste: mainly includes five categories: waste paper, plastic, glass, metal and cloth. Waste paper: mainly includes newspapers, periodicals, books, various wrapping paper, etc. However, be aware that paper towels and toilet paper are not recyclable due to their strong water solubility. Plastics: various plastic bags, plastic foam, plastic packaging, disposable plastic lunch boxes and tableware, hard plastics, plastic toothbrushes, plastic cups, mineral water bottles, etc. Glass: mainly includes various glass bottles, broken glass sheets, mirrors, warmers, etc. Metal: mainly includes cans, can boxes, etc. Fabric: mainly includes discarded clothes, tablecloths, face towels, school bags, shoes, etc.
These wastes are recycled through integrated treatment, which can reduce pollution and save resources.
Non-recyclable waste: mainly refers to food waste and other waste. Food waste includes leftovers, bones, vegetable roots, leaves, peels and other food waste. Other waste includes bricks, tiles, ceramics, slag, toilet waste paper, paper towels and other hard-to-recycle waste in addition to the above categories of waste. Sanitary landfilling can effectively reduce pollution of groundwater, surface water, soil and air.
In fact, the stick bone is listed in “other garbage” because it is “difficult to corrode”. Corn pits, nut shells, fruit pits, chicken bones, etc. are food waste. Toilet paper is not recyclable. Toilet paper dissolves in water and is not considered recyclable “paper”. Similar items include pottery, cigarette boxes, etc.
The plastic bags commonly used to bag food waste, even those that can be degraded, are far more difficult to corrode than food waste. Also plastic bags themselves are recyclable waste. The correct way to do this should be to pour the food waste into the trash can and throw the plastic bag into the “recyclable waste” bucket.
Fruit shells are considered other garbage. In garbage classification, the mark “fruit shell and melon peel” is peanut shell, which is indeed kitchen waste. Waste cooking oil left over from household use is also classified as “kitchen waste”. In garbage classification, dust belongs to “other garbage”, but fallen leaves belong to “kitchen garbage”, including flowers that have fallen in bloom at home.
Toxic and harmful garbage:
Toxic and hazardous waste contains heavy metals, toxic substances that are harmful to human health, or waste that causes real or potential harm to the environment. Including batteries, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, mercury thermometers, paint buckets, some home appliances, expired medicines, expired cosmetics, etc. These wastes are generally treated using separate recycling or landfill.
In particular, in early 2020, the novel coronavirus spread everywhere, generating large amounts of toxic and harmful medical waste. If these medical wastes are not handled well, they may be new sources of infection and are not conducive to epidemic prevention and control. Masks, protective clothing, gloves, etc. are recyclable, and simple incineration is a huge waste.
What is the best way to deal with this garbage?
Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, pointed out that the implementation of garbage classification is related to the living environment of the general public, the conservation of resources, and an important manifestation of the level of social civilization. Starting from 2019, my country's cities at the prefecture level and above will start domestic waste classification work. By the end of 2020, 46 key cities will basically have built a waste classification and treatment system, and by the end of 2025, cities at the prefecture level and above across the country will basically have built a waste classification and treatment system. Cities at or above the national level across the country will build garbage sorting and treatment systems, which means that business opportunities for garbage disposal are coming.
Weibo Environmental Equipment Technology Company believes that these solid waste, medical waste, and hazardous waste are recyclable resources after crushing, sorting, plasma fusion cracking and other procedures. We must seize this historic opportunity, stand at the level of serving national strategies and serving all mankind, and actively participate in the recycling and utilization of resources, which will surely achieve good economic and social benefits.
We welcome companies across the country interested in recycling renewable resources to call and write to discuss the development plans of the environmental protection industry.
